Mike Scher serves as General Counsel and Compliance Architect for Nexum. An attorney and systems security specialist, Mike has experience in IT risk mitigation on both the legal and technical fronts since 1993. At Nexum, he spearheads the policy and technical compliance aspects of Nexum's Solutions group, including managed security services and IT policy and technical security assessment.

Before joining Nexum, Mike was Director of Neohapsis Labs, an independent IT security product testing organization. He has served as Director of Security and Network Infrastructure for an e-commerce startup, and worked as a Sr. Network Security Consultant for the Tribune Company, building and auditing both corporate policy and corporate firewalls. In his copious free time, he continues to work towards a PhD in Anthropology at the University of Chicago, where his research has focused on the changing law and culture of unauthorized access to computers and communications systems.

Mike is a regular author and speaker on security and policy, touching on issues such as ethics and technology law at the 14th USENIX Security Symposium, compliance and technology convergence at the July 2005 KY InfraGard meeting, authentication mechanisms and technical evidence at the ABA's 2002 Cybercrime Conference, and both compliance-related liability and single sign-on in the USENIX journal "login;" not to mention a talk on the politics of DNS at DefCon 8.
